Side things

Some work for the children's hospital.

I visited my good chums, Aidan and Jake in New York recently with Fred and met a lovely Sandeep.
One of the highlights of our trip was Sleep No More, an incredible
retelling of Macbeth in the 1930's. The experience was like a wonderful nightmare.
Some process work.

Sketches

I've been fortunate enough to take a comics class taught by Rad at PDI.
It's been super motivating to get my projects together and start flushing things out. I'm currently
working on a comic about Beijing. Here are some sketches of one of my characters.

Game of Thrones. 3 conniving Cerseis. What a monster of a woman! I love to hate her.

2 Harley quickies.

And one type treatment.

More soon!

Update + part deux

Wondercon went amazingly well!
The best part is always hanging with friends and meeting other cool artists.

Here were some of my new pieces at the booth:
Two new prints (motorcycle woman not photographed) and an extremely limited run of silk screen prints on gouache and wooden veneer. They are all hand made. The veneer is sturdy double layered maple, bottom dipped in silver gouache and signed/stamped. No piece is totally alike.

They will be available in my etsy shop. Or simply click the 'shop' tab at the top of the page.

Sound of the day.

Lovely friends!

3.28.2013
If you're going to Wondercon, stop by my table!
I'll be exhibiting Fri - Sun with some new prints,
along with some original work including limited edition screen prints!
They are hand pulled with 2-4 color process on wooden veneer :)

My booth is in Artist Alley -165!

Spring

Can't wait for warmer weather and longer days!

Merita in the Canadian Rockies.

A painting I made from my Napa trip.

Goro Fujita is a GOD!!! He taught me how to play with parallax in my paintings. The biker girl is our
first shot with a more texture heavy image. The pool piece is my second go at parallax and submission for last month's Travisty's Beard. Thank you so much GORO, you are incredible!

Gifs only seem to work at tiny resolutions, so here's a higher res of the biker.

Trip to Joshua Tree. What an amazing place.

My painting from Joshua Tree. Definitely did not have enough time there.

I'm sewing again! I used to make jackets, blouses and dresses, but decided to abandon my hobby to focus on vis dev in college. However, working life is different. So, the Singer has been dusted! Here's an ensemble of three pieces I made for an upcoming gallery--a portrait, a dress and a locket--based on one of my favorite characters.
I made a gouache slinger with some left over lambskin. Makes it super easy to whip out my paints when I'm on location.
I live in an industrial area where there are many deep Muni rails and sharp bits on the ground. So flats and accidents are not uncommon (more on that later.) In addition to safety checks, I like to give my bike a pimp pass once in a while...the details matter.
I made a silver leather tool pouch with saddle straps. It's lined with lovely liberty fabric!

Sounds:
Oh Devendra, you're knee buckling...

Lastly, I will be at Wondercon this year. More updates soon!

Tom Waits

I draw alot of inspiration from music and can't work without it.

One of my favorites is Tom Waits. I absolutely LOVE his music and can listen all day. If you're not familiar with his sound, he's a bit abrasive and velvety at the same time. I love it because it's music that makes you really uncomfortable and ache on the inside...but in a great way...so much that it compels me draw alot! And when I listen, it's like wow, his struggles are my struggles...if only I could draw the lines that sound like his songs!!!

My favorite Waits. He is magical.

1. Bad as me / Bad as me
2. Young at heart / Orphans
3. Alice / Alice
4. Tango till they're sore / Rain dogs
5. Way down in the Hole (Kronos Quartet) / Healing the Divide

A painting I did for a sketch challenge, which was "Dragon Tamer."

Weekend sketching

Today was extraordinarily fun! I went sketching with Matt Jones, Jason SG, Rad, Carlos Leon, Trevor Jimenez, Kristen Lester and a few of Rad's students. We started in Hayes Valley and migrated to the Haight. Have also been sketching more on my own time. So far so good on my New Years resos.

Some more girls on bikes.

A painting of Ivan, based on the sketches I made last time. I hope this does his trendiness justice.

Here are some pics I grabbed from Rad's instagram of today's MLK sketch fun.

Matt making sweet drawings with pen and ink.

Majestic house on Alamo Sq.

Experimenting with neon gouache and painting with instagram shades.

A few of my sketches from today.

Plenaire painting with Fred.

A piece I made for an upcoming Pokemon gallery. I got 'Tentacool.'

And after instagramming so much, it reminded me of this video. Haha...

What a lovely weekend.
Cheers!
